The Castle – named after the long gone Wem castle, is the oldest pub in Wem which is evidenced by the county maps and census records.  The building is ancient and dates back over 400 years, the oldest building in the Joule’s group. Wem is a delightful country town with a handful of specialist shops on a bustling high street.  The Castle is right in the centre on the high street, much as it has been for the last few hundred years.

The Castle will be our big project in 2010/11, it is already homely but it has the potential to be spectacular and we look forward to working on it next year to reveal all its wonderment.  In the meantime Mike (Ewok to his friends) is looking after the shop admirably, and has already started work on getting the real fires going and of course selling great real ale. It’s definitely in need of restoration but in the meantime it’s still has easy parking across the road, plenty of outdoor drinking and smoking space and a friendly welcome.
