The Red Lion Jewellery Quarter

Tucked into the heart of Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter, The Red Lion is one of the city’s most distinctive pubs – and now proudly part of the Joule’s family.

Following a £500,000 investment, we’ve carefully restored this remarkable building, bringing new life to The Red Lion while holding on to the character, craftsmanship and atmosphere that have made it a local landmark for generations.

Our approach was never about reinventing The Red Lion. It was about uncovering what was already here, restoring original details and introducing new spaces that feel as though they belong. Traditional craftsmanship, reclaimed materials and plenty of Joule’s character have helped shape the next chapter of this much-loved pub.

Today, The Red Lion is once again a proper Victorian parlour pub, full of cosy corners, intimate snugs and spaces made for good beer and good conversation. Upstairs, the Club Room provides space for gatherings and celebrations, while beyond the pub you’ll find the courtyard and Beer Shed, giving the building a whole new side to discover.

We’ve also added a few new chapters of our own. The Wine Room brings together our carefully selected wines, while The Quarter Slice serves freshly made pizza from its own hatch – all sitting comfortably alongside the historic fabric of the pub.

At the heart of it all is what you’d expect from a Joule’s Taphouse: Joule’s beer brewed in Shropshire, great wine, good food and a warm welcome from our landlords, George and Tori.

The Development

Joule’s Brewery invested £500,000 in restoring The Red Lion, with one simple aim: to create a great pub for the Jewellery Quarter without losing what made the building special in the first place.

Original features were retained and restored wherever possible, with traditional craftsmanship used throughout the development. Rather than competing with the building’s history, each new addition was designed to complement it and give The Red Lion everything it needs for its next chapter.

The result brings old and new together – a characterful Birmingham pub rooted in its past, but very much alive again.

The doors are open, the beer is pouring, and The Red Lion is ready to be enjoyed all over again.
