Tucked into the heart of Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter, The Red Lion is one of the city’s most distinctive pubs, and we’re proud to be bringing it into the Joule’s family.

Our team is currently undertaking a careful restoration of the building, with work well underway to reveal the next chapter of this remarkable pub. Every decision is being made with respect for its history, preserving the character, craftsmanship and atmosphere that have made The Red Lion a local landmark for generations, while thoughtfully introducing everything needed for it to thrive once again.

Behind the scenes, original features are being uncovered, beautiful details restored, and new spaces carefully created. When complete, The Red Lion will once again be a proper Victorian parlour pub – full of warmth, conversation and character – ready to welcome both familiar faces and those discovering it for the first time.

The building itself remains one of the Jewellery Quarter’s finest historic pubs. From its welcoming bar and intimate snugs to the impressive Club Room upstairs and the hidden split-level garden terrace beyond, every corner has its own story. Soon, these much-loved spaces will reopen alongside a collection of carefully considered new additions, all designed to complement the building rather than compete with it.

Whether you’re joining us for a quiet pint after work, gathering friends for the weekend, enjoying a meal or celebrating a special occasion, The Red Lion is being restored to become the sort of pub you’ll want to return to time and again.

The Next Chapter

Joule’s Brewery is investing £500,000 into the careful restoration of The Red Lion, breathing new life into one of Birmingham’s great historic pubs while remaining true to everything that makes it special.

Rather than reinventing the building, our approach has been to celebrate it. Original architectural features are being restored wherever possible, with traditional craftsmanship sitting alongside thoughtful improvements that will allow the pub to serve the Jewellery Quarter for many years to come. The result will be a welcoming Victorian parlour pub centred around exceptional cask beer, quality food, great wine and genuine hospitality.

As we continue the transformation, we’re also looking ahead to building a team that shares our passion for traditional pubs, independent brewing and looking after the local community. We can’t wait to open the doors and welcome Birmingham back inside.
