At Joule’s, our pubs are more than just places to enjoy a pint, they’re vibrant hubs of community, heritage and great beer. We own the sixth oldest beer trademark in the world, and Joule’s has a story rooted in passion and resilience. Our brewery runs alongside the same aquifer that once supplied the historic Stone Brewery, giving our beers a connection to centuries of brewing tradition.

Fresh Beer, Always

Fresh beer sits at the very heart of Joule’s. Our pubs are the only places you can enjoy a pint of Joule’s beer, brewed at our Shropshire brewery using time-honoured methods and a deep respect for tradition. Our brewery draws from the same aquifer that once supplied the historic Stone Brewery, giving our beers a unique connection to centuries of British brewing heritage.

We operate an estate across Shropshire, Staffordshire, Cheshire, and now central Birmingham. We don’t go further than an hour and a half from the brewery, and that decision is intentional. It means every pint travels a short distance, is carefully handled, and arrives in the pub exactly as it should, fresh, consistent, and full of character.

This commitment to quality is backed by the Joule’s No-Quibble Guarantee. If a pint isn’t right, we stand by our beer and put it right, no questions, no compromise. It’s a promise that underlines the confidence we have in our brewing and gives tenants complete reassurance when serving Joule’s beer at the bar.

For customers, that freshness is something they can taste. For our tenants, it’s something they can confidently stand behind. Running a Joule’s pub means serving beer with a genuine point of difference, beer that isn’t available anywhere else and that reflects the care, pride, and accountability that go into every brew.

Pub People at the Heart

At the centre of every Joule’s pub are the people who run it. While great beer, thoughtful design, and ongoing investment matter, it’s our tenants and their teams who truly bring our pubs to life. Joule’s attracts proper pub people those who instinctively understand hospitality, who care about their locals, and who know that the smallest details can make the biggest difference.

Our tenants are warm, welcoming, and attentive, creating pubs where regulars feel recognised and newcomers feel instantly at ease. They have the ability to turn a well-invested pub into a much-loved local, building loyal communities around their bar and becoming a familiar, trusted presence in the area.

We see our tenants as partners, not just operators. Running a Joule’s pub means being supported by a brewery that values experience, personality, and passion as much as commercial success. We look for people who share our belief in the importance of the pub as a community space and who take pride in delivering a consistently great experience, day in and day out.

For those considering running a pub, Joule’s offers the opportunity to be part of a like-minded network of publicans who genuinely care about their craft. It’s about more than just pulling pints, it’s about creating a place people want to return to, time and time again.

Great Beer and Food, Done Right

Food plays an important role in the life of a Joule’s pub, but our approach is simple and deliberate. We believe in proper pub food, done well, fresh, flavourful dishes built around the classics people know and love. There’s no need for  fuss or overcomplicated menus instead, we focus on quality ingredients, well-executed dishes, and food that feels right in a pub setting.

Many of our menus include subtle nods to Joule’s beers, creating natural pairings that enhance the experience. From comforting favourites to seasonal specials, our food offering is designed to sit comfortably alongside a pint, encouraging people to stay longer and return more often.

For tenants, this approach offers the perfect balance. Menus are achievable to run, appealing to a broad audience, and flexible enough to suit each pub.

Château Bessan

Our long-term commitment to quality and heritage extends beyond beer. Joule’s Brewery is proud to have purchased Château Bessan, a vineyard in France, reflecting our passion for craft, provenance, and traditional production methods.

This investment speaks to the wider Joule’s philosophy: taking a long-term view, respecting heritage, and backing quality over shortcuts. While beer remains at the heart of what we do, the vineyard represents our broader appreciation for well-made drinks and reinforces the stability and ambition behind the Joule’s brand.

Investing in Our Taphouses

At Joule’s, investment in our pubs goes far beyond maintenance, we see every Taphouse as a long-term commitment. Each pub is carefully developed by our dedicated build and development team, who take pride in creating spaces that feel warm, welcoming, and rooted in tradition, while still being practical to run and relevant for today’s customers.

Our pubs are layered with stories of heritage and beer, and this is reflected in their design. Using our quintessential Joule’s style, we blend characterful historic features with thoughtful modern touches. Natural and reclaimed materials are used wherever possible, ensuring each pub feels authentic, timeless, and full of personality rather than trend-led.

Every detail is considered, from sight lines and lighting to the layout of the bar and seating areas. Real fires are a feature in every Joule’s pub, creating that unmistakable cosy atmosphere that defines a proper pub and encourages people to stay a little longer.

We continually invest across our estate, carrying out refurbishments and improvements that protect the character of each pub while enhancing comfort, flow, and usability. This ongoing commitment gives tenants confidence that they are stepping into a well-designed, well-supported business, backed by a brewery that truly cares about the quality of its pubs.

By respecting tradition while investing for the future, our Taphouses become places that feel special to spend time in—pubs that people return to time and again, and that tenants are proud to call their own.

Our pubs benefit from thoughtful design touches and quality materials.. We focus on sight lines, lighting, and cosy fires to ensure a warm, inviting atmosphere. By continually investing in our Taphouses, we give tenants the tools and environment to succeed, while preserving the character and charm that makes a Joule’s pub special.

Building Community Hubs

Joule’s pubs are built to be true community hubs places where people gather, connect, and feel a sense of belonging. Beyond live music, quiz nights, and social events, many of our pubs are home to long-standing darts teams, continuing the traditions that have always been at the heart of great British pubs.

Our pubs also provide a welcoming base for local clubs and groups, from sports teams and book clubs to community organisations looking for a place to meet. Whether it’s a post-match pint, a weekly league night, or a regular club gathering, Joule’s pubs offer an environment where people feel comfortable coming together.

We’re also proudly dog friendly, because we know that for many of our customers, a trip to the pub includes the whole family, four-legged members included. Our pubs are welcoming spaces where muddy boots, walking jackets, and well-behaved dogs are all part of everyday life.

This dog-friendly approach helps our pubs become natural meeting points for walkers, locals, and regulars, strengthening their role at the heart of the community. For tenants, it means a pub that feels accessible, inclusive, and genuinely lived-in, one that people return to again and again, whether it’s for a pint by the fire, a post-walk drink, or a relaxed afternoon with friends.

Pubs play a vital role in local life, and at Joule’s we believe that when everyone feels welcome, the pub naturally becomes the heartbeat of the community.
