Joule’s Brewery has announced a recruitment open day for the Red Lion in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, as plans continue for the redevelopment of the historic pub.
The open day will take place on Tuesday 11 February 2026, from 10am to 6pm, and will be hosted at Waterside Tap, Gas Street Basin, B1 2JT, while the Red Lion itself is under development.
The event offers an opportunity for those interested in working with Joule’s to find out more about the Red Lion project, meet the team behind it, and learn about future tenancy and career opportunities connected to the pub.
The Red Lion is a well loved, characterful building at the heart of the Jewellery Quarter. Joule’s is investing £500,000 into the site, with works already underway, reflecting Joule’s belief in the pub and its long-term future.
The redevelopment will focus on carefully evolving the pub, reinstating original features that have become hidden over time, and enhancing the building’s natural character. Having spent recent months getting to know the pub and its place within the local area, Joule’s has developed a series of thoughtful design concepts that respect the Red Lion’s history while ensuring it is well positioned for modern pub trading.
This heritage-led approach is central to Joule’s work across its pub estate and was most recently demonstrated at the Henry Tudor Inn on Wyle Cop in Shrewsbury – Shropshire’s only Grade I listed pub – where historic detail and considered design were successfully brought back into focus.
Georgia Charlton-Briggs, Brand Manager at Joule’s Brewery, said: “We’ve really enjoyed spending time getting to know the Red Lion and its place within the Jewellery Quarter. It’s a pub with lots of character, and our plans are about carefully revealing and celebrating what’s already there, rather than overworking it. The open day is a chance for people to come and talk to us about the project, meet the wider Joule’s team, and see whether working together could be the right fit.”
Members of the Joule’s team will be present throughout the open day, including the Joule’s Recruitment Manager, Brand Manager, and Operations Team, all available to discuss the project, answer questions, and outline the support available to those joining the Joule’s estate.
Rachel Hackett, Recruitment Manager says “This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced operator to take on a tenancy with Joule’s, particularly at a pub as iconic as The Red Lion. With major investment underway, we’re excited to find the right partner to lead the pub into its next chapter.”
Anyone wishing to attend is asked to book a time slot in advance. To reserve a place, please email opportunities@joulesbrewery.co.uk.
