The Duke of York in Lichfield is undergoing a light-touch sparkle this winter, as part of Joule’s Brewery’s ongoing commitment to caring for and investing in its pub estate. This much-loved local pub is one of the most cherished in the city and the approach throughout the work is being led with great care and attention to detail.
The intention to gently enhance the Duke while protecting everything that makes it such a special place for the community. The work will focus on subtle improvements behind the scenes alongside thoughtful upgrades for customers, all delivered in a way that stays true to the character, history and warmth of the pub.
Joule’s has a long track record of sensitively restoring and developing historic pubs across the region, including recent projects such as The Stag in Market Drayton, the Red Lion in Market Drayton, Crown Wharf in Stone and Henry Tudor Inn, Shrewsbury. Each project is approached with the same guiding principle. To respect the building, celebrate its story and ensure it continues to thrive for generations to come.
Anna Brakel, Development Director at Joule’s Brewery, said:
“The Duke of York is a wonderful pub and a hugely important part of Lichfield life. Our role is to look after places like this properly. We are being considered and respectful in everything we do, but we also know how to deliver great pub projects. This sparkle is about giving the Duke a little extra polish while keeping its heart exactly where it belongs. We cannot wait to reopen the doors in March and welcome everyone back.”
While the Duke is undergoing its project, customers are encouraged to visit its sister pub just around the corner, The Angel Inn in Lichfield, where Joule’s ales, cold beers and the same familiar welcome will be waiting.
To say thank you for everyone’s patience and continued support, Joule’s is also running a special reopening reward.
During the sparkle period, drinkers can collect a ‘Duke’s IOU’ by enjoying Joule’s beer at The Angel Inn. Simply enjoy nine pints of Joule’s during the works and when the Duke reopens, the Duke owes you a pint.
It is a small thank you from a great pub that is very much looking forward to welcoming its customers back through the doors.
The Duke of York will reopen in March, refreshed and ready for the months ahead. The team will be sharing updates along the way, so customers are encouraged to keep an eye on the Duke of York and Joule’s social channels for progress and reopening news.
