Joule’s Brewery are looking for a General Manager to run our flagship Taphouse in Market Drayton, The Red Lion.

We’re looking for someone with a personal flair and creativity to drive the continued development of events, trade builders and menu development.

Joule’s Brewery is an independent Shropshire Brewer steeped in over 200 years of History. We proudly own the 6th oldest beer trademark in the world, The Red Cross.

Our Brewery aspires to craft the quintessential moment of contemplation, savoured over a sparkling pint of beer within the quintessence of British culture itself—the pub. Put together; we think there is nothing better.

About the Red Lion

The Red Lion stands proud on Great Hales Street, Market Drayton, and is a beautifully restored historic pub dating back to 1623. The Tap adjoins to our brewery, just 10 paces away our Brew Team craft all our beer that is served in the Red Lion and our other Taphouses.

The Red Lion is not just a pub, it is a hub for the local community and beyond, hosting popular regular live music nights, quiz nights and a variety of events.

Red Lion Development 2024 and 2025

Exciting things are happening this year at the Red Lion, after acquiring the Stags Head, the neighbouring pub, work is underway with our development to create a purpose-built events space.

The development will include an extension to the Stags Head to create an incredible venue designed to host a wide array of events including Brewery Tours, wakes, celebrations, and much more. This new venue will allow us to provide a versatile space for any occasion.

The expansion presents a fantastic opportunity for a General Manager to join our team and play a key role in shaping the future of the Red Lion and events space.

What you’ll get up to:

  • Team Leadership: Manage, motivate and inspire the team

  • Brand & Retail Standards: Drive and uphold brand values and retail standards

  • Promotions & Events: Plan and manage trade builders, promotions, including live music

  • Event Management: organise and manage a variety of events, ensuring their success and building on previous large scale events

  • Customer Service: Lead the team to deliver exceptional customer service at all times

  • Brand Ambassador: Act as a Joule’s ambassador, embodying the brand’s values

  • Business Controls: Managing stock, cash and property controls, ensuring all assets are managed effectively

  • Quality Assurance: Maintain high standards and consistency in both food and drink quality

  • Menu Development: Working alongside the Head Chef on menu development and ensuring food GP targets are met

  • Compliance: ensuring all compliance procedures are followed

  • Daily Operations: Plan and organise the day-to-day running of the Taphouse to ensure a smooth operation

  • Brewery Tours: Host engaging and informative Brewery tours alongside our Brewery team
