Bomere Heath just 5 miles north of Shrewsbury is a most hospitable village with just one pub set at its heart, the Red Lion. The pub is an early Victorian village inn, and still has a two room set up, lounge and bar. The lounge is quieter and of course the bar is well laid out for pub games, used much as it has been for around 200 years.
Now a Joule’s pub it was originally a Wem brewery house before Wem Ales were bought by Bass in 1954. It has always been known for its ales, a tradition continued most passionately by ‘Sparky’ the Landlord who is fastidious about keeping a good cellar. Our plans here are modest to ensure this unpretentious but charming and welcoming country pub retains its warm and friendly tone. Work is currently taking place to get a real fire roaring again and to give the appropriate face lift to this important village community asset.
Plenty of parking and lots of space for outside drinking and smoking.
